Sharon joins team at Ruach Journey

Sharon was invited to pray for participants at Ruach Journey retreat in Georgia, who are seeking more of the life of God through living out of their human spirit. Sharon represents the Redemptive Gift of Mercy, illustrating in her life how the Lord built potential into our spirits to sense His presence and bring circumstances into alignment with His leading.

The Evansville, Indiana, Connection

In the summer of 2010 Sharon and Martin were invited to participate in a Christian witness at a New Age Fair in Evansville, Indiana. Many visitors were open to receive prayer and Christian literature. Some vendors were touched by the generosity of lunch and refreshments they received.

Starting in 2011 Sharon has been using a room at the Prayer Center as her counseling and prayer ministry office. Sharing with local believers has been encouraging to them and to her.

A group of women who have been meeting for Bible study and fellowship has included her in a Tour of Israel the second half of July. Sharon is thrilled at their generosity and at the opportunity to get in touch with the Holy Land and the Heavenly King who chose that land. Please pray for safety and for lasting blessing.

Seminar Participants learn Redemptive Gifts

Sharon and Loretta completed a four-day seminar on the 7 Redemptive Gifts (Romans 12) and Overcoming the Victim Spirit at a seminar house south of Salzburg, Austria. Sharon said she had more work to do than usual by translating into German.
Here are some views of the seminar house run by a South African woman, who also reaches out with Intercessors for Austria. She left for home after the seminar to write a book.

Snow does not stop the Austria Ministry

57 Flights into LaGuardia canceled, 5 able to land

If you schedule a flight in February, be ready to pray about the snow

For some 6 months Sharon has been working toward a month of ministry in February, 2011. Many things worked together to indicate the dates: an invitation to speak, Loretta Brown’s availability for an extended trip, personal appointments, and many more. Airline reservations and hotel rooms were just finalized when the weather reports announced a Monster Storm.

They projected snow over a 2,000 mile swath from the Midwest to the Northeast of the USA. Some 100,000,000 people would be affected. On Tuesday, February 1, the airlines cancelled 6,300 flights. Sharon’s flight from Louisville, Kentucky, to LaGuardia Airport, New York, was cancelled. Pray!

The airline made available a flight via Washington, D. C. Sharon was so relieved. Then she got to Washington and her flight was cancelled. As it turned out the one flight she needed was the only one to fly. Out of 57 flights scheduled to land at LaGuardia, only 5 made it! Guess what two people were on two of those planes: Sharon Van Horn and Loretta Brown!

God can make a way for us. It is a way of faith and perseverance.

I am reminded of a testimony by George Mueller of England sailing into New York harbor in the fog. The captain of the ship did not want to proceed because of the dangers of collision without sight. Mueller told him, “I have never been late to an appointment the Lord told me to make. He will provide a way for your ship.” Sure enough, the fog cleared just in time to allow Mueller’s ship to sail into New York and dock on time.

February 5- 8 – Ministry in and around Vienna with individuals, and groups

“ Discovering & Releasing God’ s Treasures in You and in the Land”

February 10-13 – Seminar in Groedig starting in the afternoon on Thursday until Sunday

Prayer Points: Please Pray for the following:

• health and safety as we travel both in the USA and Europe

• synchronization with God and each other as we minister

• fitting into God’s agenda each day

• sensitivity and discernment with people and the land

• consistency in walking in our identity and not becoming what people need us to be

• strength and grace for adapting to the changes as we travel and minister

• clarity, discernment, and joy

• divine appointments

• for God to send the seminar participants He chooses, who will be open to receive and implement what they hear

• good translation which brings forth the spiritual message as Loretta speaks

• facility in the German language for Sharon

• a good deposit and lasting fruit as we carry out this assignment from God

Praying for Politicians

Experience has shown that prayer makes a difference at election time.

When we lived in Connecticut, we had a few chances to attend Kingdom Life Christian Center in Milford. KLCC was helping the community with computer education, furniture and many other services. One service was prayer, not just for the members, but for local politicians.

The city of Bridgeport lost its mayor in a scandal. One of the candidates to replace him asked KLCC for prayer in their Sunday service and Bridgeport elected a Christian as mayor. The same happened with another city north of Bridgeport, where a wife on the city council felt her husband should run for mayor. Despite his lack of experience in politics and lack of public exposure, he felt God wanted his involvement. The church prayed for him in the church service and he too was elected.

I approached a few church contacts here in Louisville to offer prayer in a Sunday service for the prayer requests of Greg Fischer and Hal Heiner, candidates for mayor of Louisville. At this point I was added to the prayer team for Hal and am delighted to ask God to give him and his campaign what the Lord has in mind.

I Timothy 2:1-2: First of all, then, I urge you to offer petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people,

for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.

Media-driven or Scripture-directed?

Often our prayers are “media-driven” because TV, radio, news and internet are so pervasive. We can easily be misled to think new items are what is on God’s mind too. Media have to keep finding new things to attract our attention. What do media think are important? The values they think we have are Power, Money, Sex, Popularity, Entertainment, Justice, Goodness (sort of that ranking). Are these God’s values? Do they motivate Him and attract His attention? I doubt it.

Psalm 101 is known as “The Prince’s Psalm.”

1 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. 2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. 4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. 5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. 6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me. 7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. 8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

I see the following insights into the heart of David as Ruler of Israel:

He worshipped the LORD, who is the only one perfectly combining mercy and judgment.
He was primarily concerned with the integrity of his heart, making it attractive to his God and fitting him to act wisely.
His eyes reveal his focus: no evil thought, thing or person. As Paul says, “Our battle is not against flesh and blood…” (Ephesians 6)
His eyes reveal his godly discernment: he recognizes godly, trustworthy friends and advisors.
He has no toleration for frauds, liars or scam artists.

Let us pray that our politicians have the same heart and determination as King David, the Psalmist, had. We can ask the Lord’s grace for their media presentation as well.

May righteous hearts produce righteous deeds which are publicly rewarded.

Our ministry is called Life Connections because we pray God will continue to use us to connect people to God who is the Giver of Life. As we know and walk with Him, we also become Life-givers in this world. There are so many who struggle and think they are living but do not know real Life. That is why God is sending me again to minister His love, truth, mercy and grace to people in Austria. I will be flying on February 13th and return on March 10th, 2008.

Please pray for God to connect me with the people He is calling to Life and to fit into His agenda for this time.

Our Fall Ministry: Be a Part of It!

Please pray as Sharon flies early September from JFK to Vienna. She leads a women’s group in St. Pölten, Lower Austria, then she is doing business consulting with the Schaffers. She has a women’s Bible study in Baden and one in Traisen.

On the way to visit Maria Schaffer’s family, they will minister in a home fellowship. After their return, Sharon will be in St. Pölten again and Baden.

Later in the month, she flies to England and takes the train to Scunthorpe. The ministry schedule in England will include teaching on Sundays as well as Bible Studies during the week. The Fellowship plans an outreach meeting and will provide a meal and evangelistic message for many needy people in the town. We have been praying for these outreaches over the past months and Sharon looks forward to being a a part of this one. She is praying to be prepared for whatever doors the Lord may open.

Please pray for resilience and spiritual insight.
Already the Lord has been giving her many things to share that have been developing over the last few months. She is relying on Him to help her put it all into order & help her present it.
These preparations on top of full-time work can be tiring. We thank you for your prayer support.
Pray for safety and health. Pray the Lord gives her just the right words for the people and their needs. She wants to fit into the Lord’s agenda and what He is doing.
The Lord is using these long-standing connections to let His life flow from believer to believer and to seekers as well.
